Using the Data
The use of the data is intended for research that advances knowledge and public welfare, and therefore is not intended for commercial use or purposes. The de-identified data may not be used in an attempt to identify participants or in any way compromise participants' confidentiality. The purpose of this project is to advance the available empirical evidence and knowledge base about addiction.
Researchers who download datasets from the Transparency Project must apply for permission from their local institutional review board to complete and publish secondary data analyses using a limited dataset.
Updates & Notification
If you sign up for The Transparency Project mailing list, you will have access to new datasets and publications in advance, and you will be informed of any changes made to the datasets.
You are not obligated to sign up for The Transparency Project mailing list to download the datasets, however you must agree to and abide by the Terms of Use.
Acknowledgements & Citations
All researchers who publish studies from data accessed via the Transparency Project must include the following statement in their acknowledgements section:
This paper utilized data from the Transparency Project (www.thetransparencyproject.org), Division on Addictions, the Cambridge Health Alliance, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
Researchers should include in their methods section a citation for the dataset that includes the following information:
Source, Title. Medford, MA: Division on Addictions The Transparency Project [database distributor], Access Date.
For example, citation of the first available dataset would be as follows:
Division on Addictions, Actual Internet Sport Gambling Activity from February 2005 through September 2005. Medford, MA: Division on Addictions, The Transparency Project [database distributor], January 6, 2009.
